First video entry from Enviroweek 2008: Glass crusher PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 09 June 2008 00:40

Lady Enviro provided the first video entry from St. Maarten's Enviro week Expo held at the Emilio Wilson Park on June 7 and 8.

Steve Mix shows the public how his glass crusher works at the St.Maarten ECO-EXPO 2008 in the Emilio Wilson Park.

This glass crusher was brought to SXM for the Sand Bar and was one of the many interesting eco-friendly products displayed. Many guests at the eco-expo said that more bars and establishments should incorporate this type of glass crusher to reduce the glass volume going to the landfill.

Too little Too Late - Science Fair Project PDF Print E-mail

Video based on the sciencefair project by Louise & Roxanne called : Too Little Too Late

Their project helps to focus on the amount of pollutants that continue to grow on the island. Sewage is draining directly into ponds and lagoons; they now face the overgrowth of algae. Detergents have come into bodies of water where nitrates and phosphate levels will continue to increase. This is very visible in the Rolandus Canal where you can see the direct effects the detergents have on the surrounding environment.

We asked tourists crossing the Rolandus Canal one question: What is your opinion on the water that you see in this canal? All responses were negative. Since the government of St.Maarten seems to be focused on tourism alone, this might give them the incentive to clean up a part of sxm, if not for their local people, then for the disgusted tourists crossing the canal.

This highly polluted water leads right into Great Bay.

Video clip by Laura Bijnsdorp

Short movie to promote the importance of throwing away your own trash. Everywhere along the St.Maarten beaches, hillsides & roads there is trash.

People do not seem to see the importance of cleaning up their own mess. This lazy and irresponsible attitude has to change.
